Making a Splash

The new Sunderland Aquatic Centre celebrated its opening recently and Bastion were a key contractor to this prestigious development.

The facility, which includes a World-Class Olympic swimming pool and a Wellness Centre for fitness training and general health improvement, is located beside Sunderland Football Club’s Stadium of Light.

Bastion’s contract was worth some £140,000 on this £20 million project for the supply of the anti-ballistic cashier zone, other reception facilities, media guest desks at poolside, wall panelling and vanity and baby changing facilities throughout the building.

Much of this work was in DuPont Corian solid surface material given the wet or high humidity environment.

Project architects and consultants included Red Box Design, ARUP, Davis Langdon.

Main contractor was Balfour Beatty.
